The building Snape walks into at the start of this film is Malfoy Manor, the ancestral home of Lucius and his family. The table is the dining table Draco has taken his home meals sitting at. His father has been released from Azkaban but is in bad shape from the conditions he was held in, not the least being the effects of the dementors feeding on him. Lucius is terrified by Voldemort, knowing any second Voldemort may use the Cruciatus Curse or the Avada Kedavra on him. Narcissa sits stone-still, pokerfaced, trying to be unnoticeable but taking in EVERYTHING. Wormtail is admonished for the screams coming up from the Malfoys' cellar; that's Olivander being tortured for his wand knowledge. Voldemort is obsessed with finding a way to kill Harry himself with a wand; his pride won't let Harry escape death at Voldemort's hand, plus failure at doing this makes Voldy look and feel weak (and it could encourage challenges by Voldy's underlings). Ollivander was the hooded person kidnapped in the last film, when the Death Eaters, led by Fenrir Greyback, attacked Diagon Alley and muggles' Millennial Bridge. He is now captive in the Malfoy Manor cellar and experiencing the Cruciatus Curse. Voldemort demanding Lucius's personal wand, especially so publicly, is a further emasculation of Lucius, not an 'honor'. This, and Lucius's terrified behavior, does not escape Draco. The same with Prof Burbage's fate, on the table Draco ate his childhood meals. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ There's a reason Mad-Eye Moody has a modified broom: it's a handicap accommodation. Moody is an auror and lost his leg during a fight with a dark wizard/witch, so he can't ride astride a broomstick. While wizards/witches have amazing healing abilities that don't even leave scars, magic-caused injuries are permanent and do leave scarring. Curses, spells, potions, and werewolf bites and scratches leave permanent damage on the magical body. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It's said that this film, "Deathly Hallows, Part One" marks the division between Harry the child and Harry the adult. The night of Bill and Fleur Weasley's wedding reception is July 30th, Harry's 17th birthday. Hermione turned 17 in November, Ron in March. They are considered legal adults in the eyes of the Wizarding World, responsible for all duties and accountable for the results of their actions. So, Harry in turn is separated from his family, his school, his teachers, his mentors, his owl, even his wand. All he has is Hermione and Ron and his own character and wits. He has to rebuild his personal foundation from the inside out. Anything he hopes to regain he has to fight for. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It wasn't Snape who revealed when Harry was being moved; it was Mundungus Fletcher. Mundungus is a thief, but he owed Dumbledore for getting him out of some trouble. Mundungus was loyal to Dumbledore and passed on news (intell) when he came across it (he was Dumbledore's ear to the ground), but once Dumbledore had passed away, he no longer felt committed. Did you not read the comments after the previous film? 'Prince' is just a family name, like Martin Luther King Jr was not royalty. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Draco killing Dumbledore had no magical structure behind it. The reason Voldemort wanted DRACO to do it was vengeance against Lucius. Voldy was already perturbed with Lucius for taking no action to help bring Voldy back to a physical body and power; Voldy (after TWELVE YEARS!) had to get other supporters to help him, and Voldy famously TRULY HATES having to rely on others. Voldy was ALSO pretty pissed that Lucius's fumbled handling of the Diary lost Voldy one of his horcruxes (at least in Voldy's mind, he blames Lucius). The final straw was Voldy setting up Harry to lead the Death Eaters to the Prophesy in the Dept of Mysteries (prophesies can only be found by the one they are about; Voldy used the link to Harry to believe Sirius was being held there and tortured), but then Lucius gets and DROPS the Prophesy. Add to that having the whole conspiracy being revealed to the Minister of Magic! While Lucius sits in Azkaban getting broken, Voldemort has put into action his revenge: induct Draco into the Death Eaters (securing Draco's loyalty and cutting him off from anyone else's help or advice), give Draco the task of bridging the protective barrier around Hogwarts (by bringing in and repairing the function of a Vanishing Cabinet), and assign Draco the mandate to kill Dumbledore. Finish it off with a threat of death if Draco doesn't succeed. Voldemort sent Draco specifically to kill Dumbledore because he expected Draco to fail. -Draco fails, Voldemort himself or one his supporters carries out the sentence, Draco dies, and Lucius is devastated. -Draco fails or succeeds while making the attempt, Dumbledore or others stops Draco, and Draco is killed/wounded/imprisoned/or some mixture of this, and Lucius is still devastated. And if Dumbledore IS killed, that's a plus a best-case scenario for Voldemort having dead the one person he knew could stop him. (Except Dumbledore knew he was marked for death...) ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Draco absolutely IS an interesting character. "Half-blood Prince" is really Draco's film; it's all about Draco's redemption arc. He's grown up the male heir to the Malfoy heritage under a demanding and emotionally-distant father. He has idolized his father, trying to win his love by mirroring him and embracing his father's values, by being a mini-Lucius. Then the scandal comes down of being involved with Voldemort and his goals. The Wizarding World still hasn't fully processed the trauma of Voldemort's First Wizarding War, and here comes the threat of a Second one, heled by Lucius Malfoy. So, Lucius goes to Azkaban, Lucius loses his social and political standing, even Voldemort and his supporters reject the Malfoys. Draco is FURIOUS, and blames Dumbledore and especially HARRY. Draco's rage makes him easy for Voldemort (who has basically taken over the Malfoy's ancestral manor) to lead into a bad spot. By the time Draco gets his wits about him, he has almost killed fellow student Katie, almost killed Ron and Prof Slughorn (and Harry), and come to realize he has no one to go to for counsel, with the exception of Snape (who Draco does not see as the best resource). Draco has spent a lot of the year solitarily; the nature of the tasks he was so ready to take on now isolate him from everybody. He has to plumb his own depths to figure out what's going on, what are the consequences, who he can trust, and what is true. And he begins to see cracks in his image of his father. This is all new to Draco. And he has to go through this alone. And, interestingly enough, he has taken in enough at Hogwarts to make a slow change. Draco is not 'evil', just badly-influenced. The solitude has been painful, but helpful. The thing I like most about JK Rowling's writing is the inclusion of backstory. Backstory does not excuse behavior, but it does explain it. Backstory also provides clues to changing behavior. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One of the most repeated things in the films is how much Harry looks like his father (even Harry mistook himself as his dad across the lake, when he and Sirius were under dementor attack; and Sirius slipped and called Harry "James" just before his death), but Harry also has his mother's eyes. It's got to be difficult for Snape to look at Harry; he's the spitting image of the person who aggressively led the tormenting all through school, but the eyes of his kind and accepting childhood friend. Snape's feelings about Harry HAS to be complicated. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Some backstory to apply about Bellatrix and others in Slytherin: The chief belief of Slytherins is about 'blood purity'; they don't like mixing their DNA with anyone not of pure blood. But the problem is that the Wizarding World worldwide is a very small community. And of that community, only an estimated 25% are purebloods. Slytherins tend to marry/reproduce with other Slytherins, which now is causing an inbreeding problem. The biggest issue with inbreeding is insanity, and you can definitely see that with Bellatrix. Bellatrix isn't 'evil', she's permanently unbalanced. She doesn't act or feel this way by choice, but by physical defect. With Voldemort, he was conceived while his witch mother was daily feeding Voldemort's father love potions. Think of it like cocaine; it affects the egg/embryo/fetus/baby. Love potions left Tom Jr unable to feel love or empathy. Voldemort isn't 'evil', he's permanently damaged. He doesn't act or feel this way by choice, but by being chemically damaged, another defect. Oh, and the reason Voldemort hates his 'workers' is down to projection. Every time someone offers Voldemort help, he shows disgust and says "I don't need your help!", even if it's just to help him stand back up after getting knocked out. He hates needing help; it makes him look helpless and he hates himself when he has to delegate, so he punishes those he is forced to rely upon. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ What gets me in the last film was Harry coming for Draco in the lavatory. That was out of character for Harry. Harry has always stood back and studied the moment. He's always caught signs of distress before others do. But he enters the lavatory where Draco is loudly sobbing, and Harry is ready to attack. WTF? Can you imagine the change in the story if Harry had responded with some modicum of compassion to Draco weeping and terrified? At least Harry would have gotten some needed answers.

The HBP book has a conversation in which Snape and Dumbledore talk. Dumbledore worries about Draco's soul if Draco kills him. So he wants Snape to do it. Snape retorts "What about my soul?" Dumbledore responds that Snape knows Dumbledore is already going to die from the curse on his hand as it soreads, so Snape would be ending a friend's pain, and his soul could handle that.

I have been kinda busy so I didn't comment anything in some of the othe HP reaction but in this one I must. The reason why that Harry Potter is not using Voldemort's name it's the same reason why Xenophilius is using it. Vodemort jinx his own name so now it works as a tracker. Xenophilius called the deatheaters that way because he desperately wanted his daughter back. Now as trivia I want to add that the first and last word that Dobby says in the books and movies is Harry Potter. (update: wands cannot be given you have to earn it)

In the books, it is clear that after it’s all over, Hermione does find her parents and restore their memories. Obliviate can be undone by a very skilled witch or wizard.

If you like Eli Wallach as Tuco, you should consider watching The Magnificent Seven. That is another western where he plays the main villain, the leader of a large band of bandits that terrorize a small village. It’s from 1959 and is an American film so it is not quite the same feel as this movie, but it has a great cast of actors. Yul Brynner Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin among others.

So as not to spoil the movie, i will say this if your girlfriend likes Severus Snape so much she will definitely love him in harry potter and the deathly hallows part 2 and prepare plenty of tissues for that movie, you will need it

I don't see a coment saying it but the eye on Umbridge's door is Alastor Moody's mechanic eye. Harry takes it from the door and later burries it because that is the only thing they have left of Alastor. They never find out what the Deatheaters did with his corpse if i am not mistaken.

Draco and his mom are over it. They'd leave if they could. Voldemort would love for them to disobey, he'd send Bellatrix after them and she'll gladly betray them for him. Then he might order Lucius to kill them to prove his loyalty and torture him.

Dobby's death was so much more heartbreaking in the books, because he played a much larger role in the story in the books. He has massive character development. I can't forgive the movies for diminishing his role, and that of the other house elves too, btw, the way they did. I know things need to be cut in adaptations, but they added quite a lot of unnecessary fluff and cut things that were meaningful to the story progression. A real shame.

Dolores Umbridge is the real villain in Harry Potter 🤣

Well. In Harry Potter's saga case... I feel like the movies can't show almost all the details because the books are too lengthy novels (even just a book has too many chapters, even a 3 hour movie can't unravel all the details). A series of each Harry Potter Novel is going to have much more space to dig those little details. I feel sorry to the ones who only watched the movies and never read the books. Too many plots, names, characters, will just go roll if you don't knew it beforehand. The movies, i can tell that it was just a retelling of the books.

They don't explain it in the movies, but the reason Dumbledore's father killed those three Muggles was because they sexually assaulted his daughter, Dumbledore's little sister 😢😢😢

I like her perception in your intro As for Snape, and Voldemort, keep watching! Nick, Quynh, the trio do go through obstacles in this one and need to find a way to overcome them. Hemione modified her parent's memory for their safety, with the ability to undo it at a later time. Yes, Dumbledore had the Elder wand all this time which made him undefeatable. Draco knew it was Harry and the way I read it is that Draco is scared, he now understands how Voldemort truly is, nobody is safe from Voldy not even his death eaters are safe, all of them would be servants to him and even if Draco did give Harry away in hopes of being spared for his life and his family, I do not believe it would put the Malfoy's in his good graces again, Voldy is not a forgiving individual. Which always brings me back to the first movie when Harry and Draco are serving detention in the dark forest searching for the unicorn, Draco says to Harry, "Wait till my father hears about this, this is servant stuff" Voldy has the elder wand yes, he did not earn that wand though, he stole it. More plot twists ahead. I do hope you watch the deleted scenes for the HP movies 1-8 after this and then the 20th Anniversary Special too! The books do offer a better understanding of the storyline that the movies failed to include. I am looking forward to more! Peace. ☮

before the film even starts I LOVE Quynh I know the love for film Snape is due to Alan Rickmans performance. And for me Alan was sort of to old, since Snape is only like 37 on the books BUT he did an amazing job. But you are very peceptive and a good judge of character. Thank you for that one! About the "Half Blood Prince" - Severus Snapes mother was from a purepblood family, the Prince s (his mom was Eileen Prince) before she fell in love and married his father, one Mr Snape (not sure if it is Tobias Snape) and so once he was sorted into Slytherin (which I think he wante to honor his mother, who probably was Slytherin as well), he invented the nickname "the Half Blood Prince" for himself. To show , that he is proud of being half a Prince. So - not not royalty Also - it might be interesting to know most of the more "powerful" witches and wizards are either Muggle born or Half Blood. Harry, Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape and Voldemort are all Half Blood (although in Harry s case you could argue he is probably more 3/4 - since Lily was a witch, but a muggleborn herself) OR are muggleborn - lke Hermione. The "problem" that pure bloods have is inbreeding. Like there are "the sacred 28" - 28 families that claim to be lways pure. IF this goes back for hundrets of years - you can see where I am going. ALL those families are related in some sort of way. Ron and Draco are cousins like twice removed Sirius is related to the Malfoys as well, since he is a Black and Dracos mum was a Black (his cousin). Tonks (the witch with the pink hair) his Sirius and Dracos cousin as well. Literally ALL of the 28 are interbred, since the claim to only marry "pure". The Weasleys are "pure blood" but refuse to be on that list. Lovegood and Slughorn are on the 28 as well. And if you look at history (egyptian in paticular) intebreeding almost always makes for less resiliant descendands in the long run (and for the oure bloods we are talking hundrets of years). Hagrid sort of mentions it, that "pure blood" is more ancient and at least haf of the "pure bloods" must have a muggle in their family tree. The Black family disinherits people who marry a muggle born/Half blood. that's what happened to Tonks mum - she married a muggle (she iis the thirs Black sister, Andromeda, Bellatrix and Narcissa) and she was blasted of the family tree (as was Sirius for being in Gryffindor) Another theory (which I find nteresting but there is nothing on it anywhere) is that there are NO muggle born witches and wizards, those are descendants from Squib s (children from two magical people who have no magic temselves) - who got married to muggles or other squibs and then somewhere a few generations down there might be a witch/wizard popo up in a non magical family. That would make the magical gene not dominant early morning ramblings... Thank you for your reaction

getting to rewatch these movies with you is putting me through the emotional journey all over again, which I enjoy, but there is so much more in the books including Dobby's story, when you get the chance I really suggest reading all 7 books, personally I'm not a big reader but I wasn't able to put the books down when I read them.
